How Popular Yoruba Comic Actor Duped His Guests of Millions of Naira

Popular Yoruba Comic Actor Dupes His Guests of Millions of NairaPopular Yoruba comic actor, Olaniyi Afonja, a.k.a. Sanyeri, has been accused of obtaining millions of naira from some of his fans in a dishonest way through his wedding ceremony on December 1, 2013, Sunday.
The comic actor has reportedly sold some poor-quality ankara fabrics known as ‘aso ebi’, for N20,000. The market price for the clothing material he had allegedly offered was put at N2,500.
Sanyeri has reportedly ordered that the ‘aso ebi’ would serve as gate pass to his wedding, which was held at Anchor Event Centre, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
Those willing to attend the wedding were asked to pay directly into the actor’s account before getting their fabric material. This made it impossible for them to reject or return poor-quality ankara after making the payment.
Therefore, those at the wedding were disappointed at what they saw at the event, because there was no justification for paying such an amount to get the ‘aso ebi’.
Attempts made by Nigeriafilms.com to contact Sanyeri for comments proved abortive as, his phone number remained switched off.
The comic actor and his wife had been living together for eight years before their marriage on December 1, 2013, Sunday. They have two children together.

Nigeria Goes Down in the list of corrupt countries, places 144th in the world

Nigeria Goes Down in the List of Corrupt Countries, Places 144th in the World

Nigeria Goes Down in the List of Non-Corrupted Countries, Places 144th in the WorldNigeria remains one of the most corrupt nations in the world, according to the latest report by Transparency International.
The annual Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be.
A country or territory’s score indicates the perceived level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 - 100, where 0 means that a country is perceived as highly corrupt and 100 means it is perceived as very clean. A country's rank indicates its position relative to the other countries and territories included in the index. This year's index includes 177 countries and territories (see the map below).
Nigeria Goes Down in the List of Non-Corrupted Countries, Places 144th in the World
This year Nigeria is ranked 144th, scoring 25 / 100. This result is worse as compared to the year 2012, when Nigeria scored 27 points and was placed 139th out of 176 countries.
In 2013 corruption level in Nigeria is equal with crisis-torn Central African Republic, neighbour, Cameroon, boiling Ukraine, nuclear Iran, Oceania’s Papua New Guinea.
Denmark and New Zealand are the cleanest countries in the world, sharing the first spot in the index, with scores of 91.
Finland, Sweden, Norway, Singapore, Switzerland, Netherlands, Australia and Canada emerged in the top ten of least corrupt nations in the world.
South Sudan, Sudan, Afghanistan, North Korea and Somalia are at the end of the list, occupying the last 5 places.
Botswana is rated the cleanest African country, scoring 64 points which equals 30th result in the world.
Public sector corruption threatens to undermine global initiatives.
Corruption within the public sector remains one of the world’s biggest challenges, Transparency International said, particularly in areas such as political parties, police, and justice systems.
Public institutions need to be more open about their work and officials must be more transparent in their decision-making. Corruption remains notoriously difficult to investigate and prosecute. Future efforts to respond to climate change, economic crisis and extreme poverty will face a massive roadblock in the shape of corruption, Transparency International warned. International bodies like the G20 must crack down on money laundering, make corporations more transparent and pursue the return of stolen assets.

REVEALED: Why Boko Haram Struck Again In Borno

REVEALED: Why Boko Haram Struck Again In Borno

Boko haram may have attacked the Maiduguru International airport for three reasons, it was learnt yesterday.
The reasons are the capturing last week of a key commander of Boko Haram by the military, the continuous air raid of the sect’s cells on Maiduguri-Damaturu Road and the need for reprisals, and alleged anger over plans by former Governor Modu Ali Sheriff to visit the state and attend a reception where he will speak on the sect.
According to a top source, the arrested commander was said to be the sect’s “key strategist” and they fera he'd be revealing a lot to the military.
The source said: “We are suspecting reprisals following the capturing of the key commander, who had been vital to Boko Haram operation. They must have acted on false intelligence report that the suspect was still either being detained in Maiduguri or was being flown out of the city. They have not been able to locate the said commander. This might have accounted for spontaneous attacks on military installations and some parts of Maiduguri.”
According to another source, the recent air raids on Sambisa Forest and various cells of the sect along Maiduguri-Damaturu highway might have also provoked counter-attacks.
The source said: “We saw the attacks from purely the angle of reprisals because Boko Haram has suffered some setback in recent times. They decided to lay ambush for the military to prove a point that they are still intact in spite of the destruction of their base and cells.
It was gathered that Sheriff was going to speak at a reception where he planned to prove his innocence that he did not breed the sect, as being alleged in some quarters and though the reception was scheduled twice in the last two and a half months, it was cancelled at the last minute.
There were fears that Boko Haram sect might have got wind of the plans and decided to take over the Maiduguri International Airport to stall the reception.
This was made known by a group, Borno League of Professionals, yesterday in a statement by its Chairman, Modu Bukar Ngala and Secretary, Abba Shuaib in a memo to the President.

However, the FUTO branch of ASUU said any attempt to break their ranks would be strongly resisted by their members.
