Vigilante Group Deployed To Guard Schools As Students Resume For Exams

Local hunters under the aegis of the
Vigilante Group of Nigeria have been
deployed to Chibok town to provide
security for junior secondary school
(JSS) students, who are resuming to
write both their second and third term
examinations, official sources informed
LEADERSHIP.
The Borno State government had in
March announced the closure of all
public schools, following increasing
attacks on schools by the Boko Haram
sect.
The hunters had as at yesterday moved
to Chibok ahead the students, who
resume today.
An official of the local vigilante group
said they had been contacted to give
the school and the students a security
cover as they commence their exams, as
parents had expressed fear that their
wards’ lives might be endangered,
should they go back to school.
The junior secondary school is run by
the Universal Basic Education Scheme in
Borno State.
Apart from Government Secondary
School, Chibok from where over 200
girls were abducted by Boko Haram, the
UBE school, which has a primary as well
as a junior secondary section, is the
only public school in Chibok town.
Last week, the Borno State government
had dispersed over 300 local hunters
and members of the Vigilante Group of
Nigeria from where they had assembled
at a pilgrims’ camp in Maiduguri, ready
to go in search for and rescue the
abducted schoolgirls from the Boko
Haram. The state government had said
that sending local hunters into the
Sambisa forest would not only be
suicidal for them, but could also
interfere with the ongoing international
efforts to rescue the girls.
Besides that, Governor Shettima had
said he had no executive powers to
sanction such local effort, as only the
presidency was vested with that
authority. Shettima, who addressed the
hunters through his deputy governor,
Zanna Mustapha, had said he would
rather deploy them to guard the primary
and secondary schools, when they
resumed to write their promotional
exams.
Officials of the vigilante group said that
over 300 of their members had been
deployed to Chibok alone, to secure the
town as the students write their exams

Super Trick to Get A Good Night’s Sleep
The basic needs for humans are air, food,
water, and shelter; in addition we need a few
other things to be a reasonably content
human being, sleep is one of those things
that tops the list. Many of us have
difficulties falling asleep, this makes us
unable to perform our duties properly at full
efficiency, and can make us hard to live with!
We have an easy technique that can help
you get decent sleep in hardly any time at
all.The trick is simple and you can do it
without difficulty. It’s breathing. Breathing
techniques affect every organ and system of
your body. Breathing exercises or techniques
serve two purposes:
1. They calm our central nervous
system2. They are like meditation which
helps quiet the mind
It’s important to perform breathing
techniques at bedtime when you are all set
for sleep. Lie in your preferred sleeping
position, try to avoid using more than one
pillow as it can flex your neck and compress
your chest. You can put one below the knees
for your lower back if needed. Place one
hand on your chest and the other on your
abdomen. Relax your entire body, your legs
and arms should feel the gravity force
(should be heavy against the mattress). Now
you’re all set to try the techniques.
1. Breathing & Relaxing
This technique enables you to contract and
relax different muscle groups from head to
toe. It works better when you lie on your
back but if you feel uncomfortable or you
have a nasal congestion problem you can lie
on your side. Inhale through your nose and
hold it while flexing your toes, then relax
your toes and exhale through your mouth at
the same time. Again inhale, this time
flexing your feet. Hold your breath for 3
seconds then release both at the same time.
Continue the process while moving to
different body parts, calves, thighs, and so
on.
2. Normal Breathing
This technique involves breathing normally
and feeling the expansion and contraction of
your lungs and stomach with each breath.
Focus more on letting your stomach expand.
Next, try only letting your chest expand and
notice how your lungs feel. Repeat the
process and feel your breaths. This will be
good for your sleep and overall health.
3. Pure breathing technique
This technique is very simple:
a)      Lie down on your back or preferred
sleeping position.
b)      Inhale through your nose for a count
of 3 seconds.
c) Hold for 3 seconds and exhale slowly
through nose for 6 seconds.
d)      Repeat the process until you fall
asleep.
These techniques work for two reasons. First
you will have to focus on your breathing and
counting to make it work. Secondly, your
body and mind will feel the instant effects
that come with the shorter inhale and longer
exhale technique. This leaves an instant
physiological impact on your autonomic
nervous system signaling muscles to relax,
rate of heart to slow down, and cooling down
your brain from active mode.
If you feel the holding ratio of 3:3 is
uncomfortable for you, you can change the
ratio. The most important thing is to keep
your inhale shorter than your exhale. This
technique is approved by both medical
community and meditation practitioners.
For all insomniacs this is a great technique.
You should find yourself asleep within 5-10
minutes.

ALERT: Kefee In Coma From Brain Damage!

Now there's every reason to start worrying
about the state of health of Branama singer,
Kefee.
Reason is because the singer who was
reported to be getting better as a result of
her tweets where she was thanking her fans
and assuring them of stable health
condition, is presently in coma.
Kefee was said to have slipped into coma as
a result of brain damage and wasn't the one
operating her twitter account weekend.
The singer was reported to have fainted to
board of an airplane, forcing it to make
emergency landing and afterwards slipped
into coma.
Her husband, Teddy Ososa is said to have
flown to the US to be by her side since the
incident.
We wish her quick recovery.

Guard found dead in Lagos bank

LAGOS—A 32-year-old security guard
attached to the Lagos University Teaching
Hospital, LUTH, Idi-Araba branch of a new
generation bank was, weekend found dead in
the bank’s premises.
The cause of the death could not be
ascertained as at the time of filing in this
report but sources at LUTH said that the
lifeless body was found about 5.10am,
Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Ovate Erimhat.
Sources said: “it was one of his colleagues
that raised the alarm that attracted others, he
was rushed to the emergency unit of the
hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Since non of the bank’s management staff was
around ,other security men on ground
requested that the body be deposited at the
morgue pending when investigations to
determine the actual cause of death is
determined” he added.

Chibok girls plead for release in new video

LAGOS—President Goodluck Jonathan has
reportedly seen a new video released by Boko
Haram, where the abducted school girls of
Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok,
Borno State, spoke about their ordeal in the
hands of the insurgents for the first time and
pleaded with him to secure their release.
The girls were reportedly ill and are in camps
located in Chad, Niger and Cameroon, with
one of them nursing a broken wrist.
The footage, not released publicly but seen by
the London-based The Mail on Sunday was
taken in a jungle clearing a month after their
abduction.
More than 250 girls were taken in a raid on
their school in Chibok on April 14 by Boko
Haram terrorists.
However, Cameroon’s military reportedly killed
about 40 Boko Haram militants in the
country’s northwest last weekend, a
government radio reported yesterday, a day
after Nigeria labelled the Central African
nation the weakest link in its fight against the
extremist sect.
The clashes leading to the killing occurred in
the town of Kouserri, which borders Nigeria
and Chad.
Cameroon, a clog in the wheel
The Federal Government regards Cameroun as
not cooperative as Niger and Chad in the fight
against Boko Haram.
After a security summit in Paris two weeks
ago, Cameroon said it deployed 1,000 troops
to its border to help contain the increasingly
deadly group.
A series of suspected Boko Haram attacks in
four villages in Nigeria’s restive North-East
killed several people, residents said Sunday, in
the latest violence blamed on the Islamist
insurgents.
The military was not immediately available to
comment on the raids in Borno State, the
hardest hit area during Boko Haram’s five-
year extremist uprising, which has killed
thousands.
All of the targeted villages are in the Gamboru
Ngala district near the border with Cameroon,
where Boko Haram killed hundreds in a
gruesome attack earlier last month.
The video, according to The Mail of London,
indicated that the girls looked healthy, as
eight of them, dressed in their home-made
school uniforms of pale blue gingham, pleaded
for release while standing courageously in
front of the camera.
They were reportedly clearly scared, upset and
trying to be brave, with each walking in turn to
a spot in front of a white sheet fixed to a
crude frame between the trees.
According to The Mail, four of the girls can be
heard clearly in Hausa language stating that
they were taken by force and that they were
hungry.
The video indicated that a tall girl, aged about
18, said tearfully that “My family will be so
worried”, even as another spoke softly, saying
‘I never expected to suffer like this in my life.”
Similarly, a third girl was captured in the
video as saying ‘they have taken us away by
force’, while the fourth complained of not
getting enough food.
Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau,
reportedly released the new video of the
kidnapped girls praying after their conversion
to Islam.
The video, taken by an intermediary on May
19, has been shown to President Goodluck
Jonathan and was intended to serve as ‘proof
of life’ for the girls and to encourage the
President to accede to the terrorists’ demands.
Two earlier videos showed the girls seated on
the ground, dressed in hijabs, reciting the
Koran,with Boko Haram leader, Abubakar
Shekau, declaring he would sell them into
slavery, or marry them off to their kidnappers,
if members of his sect were not released from
prison.
The Mail said pressure from the international
community and criticism of the President’s
slow response to the kidnapping have led to a
series of contradictory pronouncements from
his government. Ministers have declared they
will not negotiate with Boko Haram, or
consider the release of prisoners, while official
spokesmen have said ‘the window is always
open for dialogue’.
At a Paris peace summit, several West African
countries neighbouring Nigeria vowed to join
in ‘outright war’ against the terrorists. Britain,
France and America pledged their support and
have sent teams of military experts and
advisers to the region. Intelligence sources
have told The Mail of several rescue attempts,
one involving the release of suspected low-
level Boko Haram members detained without
charges or trial.
Two attempts were aborted at the last minute
when the terrorists took fright while delivering
a group of girls to a safe location.
Last week, Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh
said the government knew the location of the
girls and claimed that police and military had
been ‘following them’ since the abduction. He
refused to divulge details, saying it would put
the girls in further danger.
The Mail claimed that Badeh’s announcement
may have been the result of government
officials seeing the new, unpublished video
and may have been able to persuade Boko
Haram’s intermediary to provide details of the
location. It is believed the hostages have been
split into at least four groups.
The report said one Dr Stephen Davis, an
Australian who has advised three Nigerian
presidents on how to negotiate with the
country’s militant groups, has spent the past
month trying to help free the girls.
Most Chibok girls not held in Nigeria
‘The vast majority of the Chibok girls are not
being held in Nigeria,’ he said.
‘They are in camps across the Nigerian border
in Cameroon, Chad and Niger. I say the “vast
majority” as I know a small group was
confirmed to me to be in Nigeria last week
when we sought to have them released.’
Saying the Federal Government has been
engaged in negotiations with Boko Haram’s
spiritual leader Abubakar Shekau in a bid to
secure the girls’ release, the report quoted the
Australian describing how fraught the
negotiation process has been.
‘One of that small group of girls is ill and we
had hoped we might convince the commander
of the group holding her that she should be
released so we could give her medical
treatment,’ Dr Davis said.
‘There are other girls who are not well and we
have come close to having them released but
their captors fear a trap in which they will be
captured in the handover process.
‘One girl has what I assume is a broken wrist
as they demonstrate to me how she holds her
hand. I have been told that others are sick
and in need of medical attention.’
A military source said: ‘This has been a race
against time from the minute they were
captured. As soon as the girls left Nigerian
soil, it was always going to be more difficult.
‘The government made no attempt at a rescue
until a month after they were taken. Now the
situation gets more serious by the day.
‘Any sort of attempt to get to them would
have to be cleared by the  governments of the
other nations.’
