Enugu school children weep for kidnapped Chibok girls

Tears and grief marked the children’s day
celebration in Enugu on Tuesday, as
thousands of primary and secondary school
children wept openly while praying for the
safety and speedy release of the over 200
female students of the Government Secondary
School, Chibok abducted by the Boko Haram
insurgents more than a month ago.
The children roused the audience at the
Michael Okpara Square venue of the event with
the passionate words of prayer they voiced
while raising their hands towards an imagined
direction of Sambisa forest (where the Chibok
girls are believed to be held) and beseeching
God to send his angels there to rescue their
colleagues.
They also carried placards denouncing the
abduction of the school girls and calling for
their immediate release and an end to the
harassment of school children and their
teachers in the northern part of the country.

Boko Haram Militants Kill Over 10 Soldiers,12 Policemen And Civilians In Buni Yadi

A military source has confirmed that the Boko
Haram Islamist sect in Yobe State killed over
10 soldiers, including several civilians, on
Monday. Yobe State is believed to be the
‘second hub’ of Boko Haram where they are
noted for being seen and moving about
openly, even in broad daylight. It is considered
a ‘safe area’ for the group coming after
neighboring Borno State, their home base.
The insurgents, according to the military
source, attacked a military facility at Buni
Yadi on Monday evening, and without
provocation, had opened fire on them. The
military returned the gunfire, and
SaharaReporters was told, had successfully
repelled them. Eyewitnesses say it was a
heavy exchange of gunfire that continued well
into the night, and had lasted at least three
hours.
Buni Yadi is located in the Gujba local
government area of Yobe state. The military
facility, sources told SaharaReporters, is also
located close to a police facility.
The Boko Haram sect went into the town
under the cover of darkness, wearing green
colored military uniforms without insignia,
with heavily armed vans, and also had the use
of a tank, which was used to force their way
into the military base.
Sources said the sect militants burnt down
the palace of the district head, court and
Divisional Police headquarters.Among the
victims are the Divisional Police Officer,
Divisional Crime Officer and at least 12 other
policemen that were killed in the attack.
Military officials, and spokesmen who brief the
news media on direct engagement with the
Boko Haram, are strangely silent on this
Monday evening attack. A SaharaReporters
source said that they are not passing along
any information to the press regarding the
Monday fire fight with the Boko Haram, at this
time.
Aside from the SaharaReporters source that
confirmed ten dead military personnel, no
other information following the attack,
including the scores of suspected wounded
military personnel among their ranks, has
been issued.
At press time residents in the Gujba local
government area are stunned, and tensions
remain high in the town of Buni Yadi, with the
fear of yet another impending attack by the
Islamist group arriving at any time. Not
helping frayed nerves says a SaharaReporters
source, is the behavior of local police, and
especially, the military. Sources say
confidence among local residents is at a low,
with the local military remaining tight-lipped
over additional security measures that may be
taken in the aftermath of a dramatic late night
attack that has left at least ten dead.

Abducted Chibok Girls: The Only Nigerian Journalist With Access To Boko Haram Wades Into Negotiation

Ahmad Salkida, the only Nigerian journalist/
civilian to have access to Boko Haram was
reportedly flown in a few weeks back by the
Nigerian government to act as negotiator
between them and the Boko Haram extremists. Salkilda
Salkida, who previously worked for Daily Trust
and Premium Times and reported extensively
on Boko Haram had fled Nigeria to Dubai
about 2 years ago, after he was being accused
of being a Boko Haram sympathizer.
Salkida, civilian who has allegedly seen Boko
Haram leader Abubakar Shekau and come out
alive, was said to have flown back home after
the Nigerian government assured him that he
will not be arrested.
He tweeted:
There is nothing wrong in having
professional access to insurgents as
long as it is used to save lives and
promote peaceful coexistance...

Trusted by both the government and
extremists from Boko Haram, Salkida acted as
go-between, risking his life on a one-man
mission to enter the gunmen's lair and broker
an agreement, according to security sources.
Mr Salkida was born in the north-eastern
state of Borno, where Boko Haram originated
and after arriving the country was able to
travel by taxi to the group's forest camp to
talk to Shekau two weeks ago.
Security sources said, "His mission was
secretive and dangerous. He reported
afterwards that the group of girls he saw were
alive and well, and being adequately fed and
sheltered. They told him all they wanted was
to go home."
His mission was however complicated by the
chaos surrounding the Nigerian government's
pronouncements about negotiations with the
terrorist group.
The deal was that one hundred non-
combatant, low-level sympathisers were to be
freed in exchange for the girls but the
Nigerian government reportedly cancelled the
"swap" deal of the abducted girls for Boko
Haram prisoners at the last minute.
Meanwhile, government spokesman Reuben
Abati said yesterday, May 26 that he was not
aware of any attempted rescue plan taking
place last week.
Over 200 were school girls were kidnapped on
April 14, in Chibok community, Borno and the
Nigerian government has making efforts to
secure their release. According to the military
the girls have been located but they cannot

Rapist Teacher says one girl made advances to him

School teacher Olayinka Oluwadare
Folarin arrested yesterday over the
alleged rape of 3 children said one of the
girls “made advances” at him.
The 38-year-old father of four was quoted
saying by Vanguard:
“One of them made advances at me. You
know how children play with you in a funny
way. This thing is beyond me.”
Attributing his actions to the demonic
attacks he said he had felt bad ever time he
committed the crime but could do nothing
to stop himself. Speaking with journalists and police he
lamented however:
“Why don’t you find a way of helping me. Is
this meant to expose me?.. The person who
has not sinned before should cast the first
stone.” Folarin claimed in tears he is a different
person now.
The suspect narrated how he had led his
victims to the toilet and put them in the
wash hand basin and then fondled their
private parts. He however denied
penetrating with his manhood, while the
medical examination showed the girls’
hymen was not intact.
Based on the testimony provided by all the
victims, Folarin had been abusing them
twice a week since last year.
The case was transferred to the state Police
headquarters for further investigation.
