10 Things To Never Give Up Because Of A Relationship

1. Your Self-esteem/ Confidence/ Self-beleif
We Should never forget who we are and what
our goals and ambitions are in life. A
healthy relationship should give us a sense
of security to be able to be all that we can
be.
2. Your Independence- personal and financial
Even if your in the best relationship in the
world it is always important to value yourself
and have some time enjoying the things you
like to do even if your partner doesn’t share
the same interest. Also You should have
some financial security and a separate bank
account, knowing you have that security and
choose to stay in a relationship gives you
the certainty that your in that relationship
for all the right reasons.
3. Your right to decide for yourself- Freedom
of choice Nobody appreciate people
criticizing them regarding every little matter
or trying to control their every move. People
have the right to choose for themselves and
the dynamics of the relationship should be a
win- win situation.
4. Your right to be you Everybody changes a
certain amount when in a relationship
however; it is essential not to loose your
own identity. If someone really cares for you
they will love and adore the real you rather
than trying to change you.
5. Your Happiness Sometimes the fear of
being alone tricks us into staying in a
relationship that makes us miserable; this is
the worse thing we can do to ourselves, if
you feel unhappy and unappreciated you
should take a good look at the relationship
that you in.
6. Your dreams and goals You should never
give up on your dreams for the sake of a
relationship; if someone stands between you
and your dreams it only shows how insecure
they are. In happy relationships partners
encourage each other to fulfill their dreams.
7. Existing relationships that are important
to you Your partner should respect you and
your existing relationships with your close
friends; they shouldn’t show any negativity
towards your friends or try to prevent you
from continuing your friendship. Good friends
are hard to come by these days and we
should cherish the ones we have.
8. Your self-respect Sometimes in a
relationship we cross self-respecting
boundaries that should have never been
crossed. If you allow yourself to be treated in
a disrespectful way this is a major red flag
that this relationship is not good for you.
You should never allow anybody to treat you
in a disrespectful way.
9. Your Identity- don’t morph into your
partner too much and lose yourself in the
process In a relationship we try to become
more and more like our partner their habits,
interest and etc… there is nothing wrong with
this process as this helps with the bonding
process however, when one takes on too
many characteristics of their partner they
start to loose their own identity and stop
making decisions on their own resulting in
loosing their true identity.
10.Your decision-making power As a couple
we tend to loose the ability of making a
decision on are own and choose to make all
the decisions with the help of our partner. I
agree that the important decisions should be
made together however, the small day to day
decisions can be done without the input of
both parties. This way we get to keep some
of our decision making independence without
it having a negative effect on our
relationship.
Relationships are hard and take allot of work
but, with the right knowledge; we all can
have a Happy and Healthy relationship.

Love Shyness Survival Guide / Do I Suffer from Love Shyness?

Have you ever wondered why you have a
hard time speaking to the opposite sex?
Everyone has a little natural shyness,
however some are extremely shy when it
comes to meeting the opposite sex. They
might be over-anxious, extremely worried, or
show signs of physiological arousal and
nervousness that limits their usual behavior.
This article will review some findings of the
love shyness .
Men and women of every age and sexual
orientation can experience it, but it primarily
affects heterosexual men. The person can
lead a normal balanced life in most respects,
but when facing someone attractive, or
thought of in romantic terms, they experience
extreme distress and anxiety symptoms
including sweating, stomach pain, nervous
habits, trembling, and palpitations.
Love shyness can become a serious problem
that affects other areas decreasing quality of
life. Those who do not work to overcome it
cannot reach the degree of sexual contact.
If you think you suffer from this and it is
seriously affecting you, consult a
psychotherapist. If symptoms are not severe
try breathing techniques and practicing in a
mirror. Social networks and dating sites
makes it easier.
According to Dr. Gilmartin, author of Shyness
& Love: Causes, Consequences, and
Treatment , here are some descriptions of the
person with relationship shyness:
• You are male. Most people that suffer from
romantic or love shyness are men, this is not
new since society expects men to make the
first move, this might be problematic if you
don’t have experience or confidence.• You
are still a virgin. This is not bad by itself,
however society can make a big deal out of
having sex, so frustration and angriness
comes from lack of sexual intimacy. Sharing
sexual experiences can be interpreted as a
sign of maturity.
• You rarely or never date. Your anxiety
levels are high, your expectations are
pessimistic, and your self-image may be low.
• You have suffered, or are still suffering
emotionally from lack of meaningful
companionship. You may desperately want a
romantic relationship, but have not due to
shyness.
• You may suffer from anxiety at the thought
of being face to face with men/women
amicably. This is the essence of love-
shyness.
• If it’s about men you might think that
women are more privileged.
• They are in less physical shape than
average. They tend to be less interested in
sports.
• You may give great importance to physical
beauty (especially facial beauty).
• You are not interested in same-sex
friendships.
• You often have problems expressing
emotions.
• You might be passive-aggressive and not
speak assertively, not expressing what you
really want, so there’s ambiguity.
• Your parents didn’t allow dating.
• You have a serious disposition, contrary to
someone that makes others laugh or smile.
• You had overprotective parents.

15 Skills Every Woman Should Know

Things for women have changed drastically
over the last century. Our mothers and
grandmothers grew up in a different world.
To make it easier for you we are showing
you some skills that every woman between
the ages of 22-66 should know:
• Say No and Change Topic
When someone asks a question you want to
avoid use this skill for unwelcomed and
awkward question, play it down, say, “Oh
that! Now tell me about (insert a new
topic).”
• Learn to Cook (a little at least)
Master one delicious and crazy dish, make it
yours and use it to impress everyone who
eats it.
• Invest Money Wisely
Learn to invest money like a smart and
intelligent woman who knows how to
manage funds.
• Learn Directions
When people direct you to turn northeast or
southwest, act accordingly and do not get
confused, this is a sign of a smart woman.
Don’t confuse left and right.
• Initiate Conversation With Anyone
The skill of being able to have a
conversation will get you just about
anywhere. If you have doubts, ask and nod
sagely, this will also get you attention.
• Negotiate
If it’s groceries, salary, a house, or a car you
should know to negotiate in different
situations. Don’t hesitate to ask for a lower
price, do it because you deserve the best and
you are worth it.
• Posing For a Snap
This is important for many women, slightly
turn your head to one side instead of looking
straight into the camera. Sit or stand
straight with your shoulders back, don’t
press your arms against your body. Place
your tongue on the roof of your mouth and
slightly raise your eyebrows. Stick your chin
out to accentuate your jawline unless you
have a prominent chin.
• Remove Unwanted Body Hair
Including on your head, get your mane
shaped and trimmed! This makes you feel
more confident, get it professionally waxed if
needed, then show off your smooth skin.
• End a Conversation
Ending a conversation is as important as
starting a conversation, be graceful, polite,
and firm. Don’t lie, you do not owe anyone
an explanation, a good example, “It was
great to see you, enjoy the rest of your day!”
Smile and move on.
• Packing
Practice packing everything you need for a
weekend getaway in one small bag neatly
and quickly. Consider clothing that goes with
more than one outfit, shoes and handbags
that match everything, and don’t forget
chargers and medications. On a recent trip
one smart lady packed her medications in
sandwich bags and wrote on them with a
marker, much less bulky than all your pill
bottles!
• Never Forget a Name
Each time you meet someone new remember
their name, people who remember names are
interesting. Ask how to pronounce or spell it,
then say the name again. Think of something
to help you remember it, asking the origin of
their name is a great helper.
• Know Your Car
A smart woman knows the basic parts and
how they work: oil, brakes, radiator, engine,
transmission, spark plugs, filter, and
headlights. Know when routine maintenance
is due and have it done, shop around for
major repairs, and learn to check your own
fluids and change a tire!
• Keep Essentials Handy
Smart women carry cash, ID, cards, keys,
phones, lip gloss, breath mints, and
something to read in her bag. This will help
you out of tough spots and can keep you
from boredom when stuck waiting.
• Welcome New Neighbors or Co-workers
Greet them in a friendly manner and give
helpful advice, like the best places to shop,
eat out, or take breaks.
• Satisfy Yourself and Your Partner
Smart women can satisfy themselves and
their partners, in any situation they handle
things calmly and wisely. Compassion and
wisdom are guiding forces.

Signs You Are A Facebook Junkie (and You Don’t Even Know About It)

Signs You Are A Facebook Junkie:
The increased use of social networking,
especially among young people, is a clear
example of how easily we become addicted
to new technology.
These statements are categorical,
researchers say one of the negatives to
overusing social networks is social isolation .
This occurs when a person stimulates their
virtual relationships instead of developing
their personality in a real, physical
environment. This situation is reflected by
the extreme anxiety of some regarding their
likes, posts, and status, being highly
sensitive and overly conscious about what’s
going on in the virtual world, with Facebook,
Twitter, or Tumblr contents their top
priorities. They prefer to interact with virtual
friends more than real people .
Another symptom of social media addiction
with negative effects is that a person will
experience acceptance on these networks,
because they are designed to emphasize the
positives in life, the bright side that is
socially accepted that we feel comfortable
showing. This can result in denial of our
defects and the defects of others, creating
relationships based on sensation-seeking or
immediate satisfaction.
Those hooked on social networking
continually update their profiles and pictures
and are very conscious of comments and
likes, and are more narcissistic and insecure
than average , according to a recent study.
Researchers at the University of York,
Canada, reveals how networking is the
perfect retreat for people who meet these
criteria, as it allows them to establish a
large number of ‘hollow’ friends without
having to maintain a real relationship with
them. The findings show there is a positive
relationship between levels of narcissism or
low self-esteem detected by the test, and the
number of times per day that students
update on social networks, according to
experts this is not a surprising fact,
narcissism can be rooted in lack of self-
esteem .
Finally, the research, which involved equal
numbers of men and women, also showed
how men are more likely to review the
comments on your profile, while women
perused uploaded pictures.
Symptoms of A Social Media Addict
(Facebook junkie):
1- You are online all the time. No matter
where you are or what you’re doing, you
contribute live postings and comments about
your day, your posts, and other posts. You
don’t pay attention to the people that are
with you, family or friends.
2- Walking or driving while looking at a
mobile phone. Often the social media addict
won’t realize he is crossing streets, driving,
or acting strangely because of their
addiction. Studies prove texting while driving
can be fatal, dangerous for yourself and
others,, maybe more than driving while
intoxicated.
3- Posting everything that happens to you.
See if this is familiar: the first time a friend
eats sushi, he takes a selfie with the sushi,
just to inform us. Sometimes people cut
themselves, they’ll post a picture before
bandaging. They assume others are
interested in every detail of their lives.
4- Sleeping less. Do you procrastinate
bedtime to be online?

5 Sure-fire Ways to Overcome Fear and Anxiety Today

Legend has it that Nasrudin
was walking alone at night
when he saw a group of people
approaching in the far
distance. Instantly, his
imagination began to toy with
him: "They are surely robbers!"
he thought. "No, why just
robbers? Murderers, cutthroats!
About to set upon me, a lonely
traveller, leave me for dead and
steal all my possessions! How
are my wife and children going
to cope without me?!"
Nasrudin's heart began to pound. His mouth
became as dry as his palms became wet. He
shook from head to toe and found himself
breathing like an unfit man running to the
finishing line of his first marathon.
Having thoroughly terrified himself, he
stumbled into a nearby graveyard and
cowered shaking inside an open tomb,
awaiting his fate. Meanwhile, the harmless
strangers, worried by his dramatic behaviour,
approached him and looked with concern
down into the tomb. "What, pray, are you
doing down there?" they asked.
Nasrudin, calming down quickly, said: "Well,
put it this way: I am here because of you and
you are here because of me!" (1)
Imagination is a tool to be used, but how
many people misuse it to torment themselves?
Imagination and emotionality are closely
linked and what we imagine can feel very real
to us (even when it isn't at all).
As the author Katherine Paterson once said:
"To fear is one thing. To let fear grab you by
the tail and swing you around is another."
If you find yourself becoming overly anxious,
use the following steps to help you calm down
and start to regain control.
1) Breathing is the short circuit for
anxiety
I know I know, you hear a lot about 'deep
breathing' to help you relax and reduce
anxiety, but bear with me.
Quicker, shallower breathing is the first trigger
which catapults all the other anxious
symptoms into action. So by controlling
breathing you control all the other anxiety
symptoms as well.
If you purposely breathe out longer than you
breathe in, your body has to calm right down
(regardless of what tricks your imagination is
playing on you).
So if you start to feel fearful:
Stop
Focus on your breath
Take a breath in (to the quick count of 7 in
your mind)
Then slowly breathe out (to the quick count
of 11 in your mind)
If you do this for a minute or so, you'll be
amazed how quickly you've calmed down. We
call this '7/11 breathing' but the numbers are
up to you, just as long as the out-breath is
longer than the in-breath.
"That's all very well!" I hear you say. "But
when I get anxious I forget everything and all
good advice goes out the window!"
Good point and well made. This brings us to...
2) Prepare for peaceful performance
If you get anxious and fear upcoming events,
you'll notice that just thinking about that
interview, speech, or whatever will start to
cause physical responses – namely, anxiety.
So you might be thinking about next
Wednesday's dental appointment and find
yourself breathing more quickly or your palms
getting moist. This in turn primes your body
to become even more anxious in the actual
situation and so the vicious cycle continues.
And note the role of the imagination in
priming your mind and body to feel fearful
(see opening story).
But you're going to find that breathing in a
relaxed 7/11 way whilst imagining the
upcoming situation ahead of time calms the
association down, priming your mind to feel
more relaxed naturally and automatically when
the actual situation arrives.
So when you find yourself thinking about the
future event, do 7/11 breathing.
One symptom of too much fear or anxiety is
not being able to think clearly (Nasrudin
stumbled into the nearest tomb!). This
happens because the emotional part of the
brain 'swamps' the thinking part so as to
avoid, say, over-analysis getting in the way of
running like Bejessus from a lion.
But in most modern situations we want to
retain clear thought. And keeping your
'thinking brain' working actually calms you
right down. The next step helps you do that.
3) Use a different part of your brain
When we become very anxious, it's harder to
think clearly. But if we force ourselves to use
parts of 'the thinking brain', this will dilute the
emotion and begin to calm you down.
The easiest way to do this is with numbers.
You can scale your own fear from 1 to 10, 10
being the most terrified it's possible to be and
1 being the ultimate relaxed state.
When you're feeling anxious, ask yourself:
"Okay what number on the scale am I right
now? Am I a 7, or a 5?" Just doing this will
lower anxiety because it kick-starts the
thinking brain, diluting the emotion and
automatically making you calmer.
I recall the first time I gave a speech to three
hundred people. Just before I was about to
start, I was feeling more anxious than I would
have liked. So I scaled myself at a 6, breathed
longer out than in for a few moments, and
waited for myself to go down to a 3 before
starting. I took control. Scaling (sometimes
known as 'grading') your fear puts a 'fence'
around it, making it more manageable, and
forces you to think.
4) Get control of your imagination
Fear and anxiety thrive when we imagine the
worst. We developed imagination to be able to
project into the future so we can plan ahead.
However, a side effect of being able to imagine
possible positive futures is being able to
imagine things going wrong. A bit of this is
useful; after all, there really might be muggers
or loan sharks. But uncontrolled imagination
is a nesting ground for anxiety and fear that
can spoil otherwise happy lives.
Some people misuse their imagination
chronically and so suffer much more anxiety
than those who either future-project their
imaginations constructively or who don't tend
to think about the future much at all. Anxious,
chronic worriers tend to misuse their
imaginations to the extent that upcoming
events feel like catastrophes waiting to
happen. No wonder whole lives can be
blighted by fear and anxiety.
Some people don't even really know they are
doing this. So:
Sit down and do your 7/11 breathing.
Count yourself down from whatever number
you deem yourself to be to a 2 or a 1.
Imagine seeing yourself in the situation you
were dreading, but see yourself being calm,
composed, cool, and comfortable and things
going well. Doing this starts to recondition
your mind to feel calmer and more upbeat
about upcoming events or regular situations
which were causing anxiety.
Or let me do this for you by clicking on the
free audio below:
5) Use the AWARE technique
Fear and anxiety can feel as if they 'just
happen to us', but we have much more control
than we realize. AWARE is an acronym
standing for:
A: Accept the anxiety. Don't try to fight it.
W: Watch the anxiety. Just watch it and when
you notice it, scale your level of fear and start
to breathe longer on the out-breath.
A: Stands for 'Act normally'. Carry on talking
or behaving as if nothing is different. This
sends a powerful signal to your unconscious
mind that its over-dramatic response is
actually not needed because nothing that
unusual is going on. Like fire fighters coming
out and seeing that no emergency is
happening and so going back to the fire
station.
R: Repeat the above steps in your mind if
necessary.
E: Expect the best. One of the greatest feelings
in life is the realization that you can control
fear much more than you thought possible.
Overcoming fear and anxiety will give you the
'spare capacity' in life to focus on what you
really want to be and do. It takes effort, but
imagine the rewards.

Human heads not needed for monarch’s burial -Police

The Rivers State Police Command has
dismissed claim that human heads are
needed for the burial of the traditional ruler of
Woji Town, His Royal Majesty Frank Eke.
The interment of the remains of the royal
father known as Eze Gbakagbaka of Woji
Town on Sunday, June 8, 2014 has caused
apprehension among residents of Port
Harcourt, Obio.Akpor and their environs.
But a statement by the State Police
Command cautioned that the rumour was a
figment of the peddlers’ imagination, adding
that such barbaric practice could not be
imagined in the current dispensation of
human advancement.
The statement by the State Assistant Police
Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko,
urged members of the public to go about
their lawful businesses and ignore the
rumour.
It said, “The attention of the Rivers State
Police Command has been drawn to rumour
making the rounds that human heads are
needed for the on-going burial ceremony of
HRM, King, Dr (Amb) Sir Frank Adele Eke, Eze
Gbakagbaka of Woji Town, which will be
rounded off on Sunday, June 4, 2014.
“It has become very necessary to respond to
this rumour in view of the security concerns it
has raised in the State especially in Obio/
Akpor LGA. Unfortunately, this has
erroneously caused apprehensions in the
minds of people for fear of being murdered for
the said burial.
“In this regard, the Rivers State Police
Command hereby refutes the rumour as a
figment of the imagination of those who have
concocted such rumour. It is important to
state that such barbaric practice cannot be
imagined in the present civilised dispensation
of human advancement.”

Insecurity: Archbishop of Canterbury visits Jonathan

THE Archbishop of Canterbury, Rt.
Reverend Justin Welby, was at the
Presidential Villa, Abuja, on
Wednesday to pray with President
Goodluck Jonathan over the current
security situation in the country.
He told State House correspondents
after the closed door session that he
condoled withh the President over the
victims of terrorist attacks in the
country and particularly regretted the
recent bomb blasts which occurred in
Jos, Plateau State, a city he said he
was very familiar with.
“The bombing in Jos was deeply
disheartening because I know Jos very
well. I came to pray with His
Excellency and express our condolence
for the losses,” he said.
Citing the scriptures, the archbishop
urged Nigerians not to despair over
the security situation, but to always
look towards God for solutions.
He added: “God is faithful. In one of
the letters that Paul wrote to the
church, he talked about the sufferings
they were going through being known
throughout the world and that
inserting true here because the
suffering in Nigeria is known
throughout the world.
“People throughout the world pray for
the country. It is a country which I
have profound respect and deep love.
And like many, I am deeply grieved by
what is happening but God is faithful.
“He is always faithful to us and as
Christians, in Jesus Christ we believe
in His faithfulness and we can trust
Him for the future.
“I don’t have words to describe the
good potential this country has. There
is great difficulty at the moment, but it
is a country with such enormous
potential. I think Nigerians by nature
are joyful, hopeful and vigorous, they
work hard.
“The country has so much going for it.
In the meeting, the President talked
about the need of a solution that will
reach all people, not just the security
but economy, spiritual and every part
of the human life.”

"I Am Responsible For Ronaldo’s Injury"–Ghanaian Witch Doctor, Kwaku Bonsam

Firebrand Ghanaian spiritualist Kwaku
Bonsam says he is responsible for
Portuguese striker Cristiano
Ronaldo’s injury. This news comes
barely days leading up to the World
Cup in Brazil. Bonsam says his aim is
to prevent the Real Madrid striker
from playing against Ghana in the
group stages, and possibly beyond
that.
News broke last week of Ronaldo’s
ailment, triggering a hushed
celebration from Ghanaian soccer fans
who secretly dread the national team
playing the Portuguese team with
Ronaldo in striking position.
A statement issued by the Portuguese
FA on Wednesday, confirmed that the
2008 FIFA Player of The Year was
diagnosed with tendonitis in his left
kneecap area, and is also nursing a
muscle problem in his left thigh.
Tendonitis is an inflammation,
irritation and swelling of tendons, and
even though this is quite a common
condition with athletes, Kwaku
Bonsam claims he is responsible for
that condition, and that no doctor can
cure it until Ghana is clear from
Ronaldo’s reach.
“I said it four months ago, that I will
work on Cristiano Ronaldo seriously
and rule him out of the World Cup, or
at least prevent him from playing
against Ghana, and the best thing I
can do is to keep him out through
injury." he said on the Ghana-based
Angel FM in Kumasi.
"I am very serious about it. Last week,
I went around looking for four dogs
and I got them to be used in
manufacturing a special spirit called
‘Kahwiri Kapam’"he added.
“This injury can never be cured by any
medic, they can never see what is
causing the injury, because it is
spiritual. Today, it is his knee,
tomorrow it is his thigh, next day, and
it is something else.”
Kwaku Bonsam paid a visit to
SaharaTV some months ago while
visiting New York. In that interview he
claimed that some Pastors paid him
visits at his shrine to seek spiritual
help.
Ronaldo missed the 0-0 game with
Greece over the weekend, and is also
likely to miss Portugal’s World Cup
warm-up matches against Mexico,
and Ireland. It is however not clear if
he will recuperate early on time for
the World Cup.
Ghana plays Portugal on June 26 in
Brasilia, in their final Group G match.
Group G comprises Germany, USA,
Portugal and Ghana.

Top 10 Ways To Keep Your Skin Clear

Top 10 Ways To Keep Your Skin Clear
By PositiveMed-Team
Edited By Stephanie Dawson
Your skin can tell many things about you,
how healthy you are, your age, what you eat,
or even how much you drink. It’s important
to take care of your skin and keep it clean.
Here are some natural ways to keep your
skin clear:
1. Mint
Mint contains menthol which has cooling
and cleansing properties. You can apply
mint juice to your face every night before
bed. You can also make a paste of mint
leaves by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
and warm water. Apply this paste all over
your body for beautiful and clear skin.
2. Wash your face
It’s important to keep washing your face
with clean water using a natural cleanser.
This will allow your skin to breathe and keep
it germ-free.
3. Lemon
Lemon works great as a natural exfoliate.
Squeeze a lemon into a bowl and pour on a
cotton ball. Wash your face then apply
soaked cotton ball. Let it dry for 10 minutes
and wash off with cold water. You can dilute
with water if your skin is sensitive.
4. Stay calm
Too much stress increases production of oil
that leads to clogged pores and whiteheads.
Try to keep yourself calm and composed. Do
things that keep you cool and relaxed.
5. Avoid soap and hot water
Washing your skin with hot water and soap
can dry out your sebaceous glands which
makes your skin dry and unhealthy. Sebum
production is necessary to keep your skin
clear and healthy. A natural soap can be
used with lukewarm or cold water only.
6. Diet
Diet plays a vital role in keeping your skin
healthy and clear. Include foods rich in water
in your diet. This will enhance blood
circulation and will nourish your skin cells,
eliminating the waste that your skin cells
generate. Choose fresh vegetables, fruit, and
dark green leafy vegetables. The natural
vitamins, minerals, and fiber in these foods
will help optimize blood circulation.
7. Avoid too much make-up
Try to avoid excessive use of make-up
products on daily basis. These products are
chemical-based and may harm your skin,
even causing rashes. You can try natural
products or other products with less
chemicals.
8. Papaya
Papaya contains the enzyme papain and has
amazing antibacterial and wound healing
abilities. It’s also good for removing dead
skin. Regular application of papaya juice can
help remove freckles and brown spots from
sun exposure.
9. Cucumber
Cucumber has hydrating, nourishing, and
astringent properties which is good for your
skin. The pH of cucumbers is same as our
skin which is why they help restore the skin’s

Boko Haram: Court rejects facial masking for prosecution witnesses

2014 BY ADE ADESOMOJU
A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday
dismissed an application seeking facial
masking for  prosecution witnesses lined up
to testify in the trial of three suspected
members of the Islamic fundamentalist sect,
Boko Haram.
The accused persons, who are being
prosecuted by the Federal Government for
terrorism charges, are an Islamic scholar and
a lecturer at the Kogi State University, Dr.
Muhammed Yunus, Salami Abdullahi (aka
Asta) and Musa Umar.
The Wednesday’s ruling was a major setback
to the case of the Federal Government, whose
witnesses had insisted they would not appear
in court without an assurance that their
identities would be fully shielded from public
view.
The prosecution counsel, Mr. Ayanfeoluwa
Ogunsina, told Justice Gabriel Kolawole after
the ruling was delivered that he needed to
make consultations before continuing the
case.
“I will have to make consultations if we have
to continue with the case of the prosecution,”
he said.
However, Justice Kolawole rejected
Ogunsina’s request to adjourn the matter till
June 24 so that the prosecution would
complete its consultation before coming to
court.
He insisted that trial would start on June 9
and continue on June 10, 24, 25 and 26 as
earlier scheduled in previous proceedings.
In his ruling on Wednesday, Justice Kolawole
held that the Federal Government’s
application, the second of such seeking
protection for its witnesses, constituted an
abuse of court process.
Apart from dismissing the prayer seeking
facial masking for prosecution witnesses, the
court also dismissed the two other prayers,
asking the court to either set aside or modify
its earlier ruling delivered on April 3, 2014.
The prosecuting counsel, Ogunsina, had filed
the application dated May 2, 2014, arguing
that the earlier ruling of the court, granting a
protection for the witnesses, was not
exhaustive.

The Power Of A Woman

Femi Fani-Kayode
— June 3, 2014
Women are a precious gift from God but
there are some things that all men need
to know. Women are by far the deeper
and more powerful of the two sexes. No
matter how strong a man thinks he is,
he is like butter in the hands of a
woman that he loves. It is only a woman
that can carry a child for nine months
and raise that child to adulthood and
yet until the day that that woman dies
only she will know the real father of that
child.
Women are more discerning than men,
more calculating, more thoughtful, more
spiritual, more loyal, and more
disciplined and they can handle
emotional pain and psychological
torture far better than men. A woman
can suffer trauma, deprivation, shame,
sheer cruelty and beatings from a man
and still stay with him simply for the
sake of the children. A woman can do
anything and take anything for, or from,
a man that she truly loves.
A woman can be the most vicious and
dangerous of all God’s creatures when
she is hurt and scorned and when her
love is not returned.
A woman in a position of power can be
a dangerous thing because more often
than not she is motivated by emotion
and not reason or logic. If wars were to
be fought by women they would never
end.
The greatest weapon that the devil has
in his armoury are the Daughters of the
Serpent and the Children of the Sea:
those beautiful yet evil seducers whose
mission in life is to destroy men that are
called to greatness by God. The greatest
weapon that God has in his arsenal are
the Daughters of Zion and the Sisters of
Virtue: those beautiful, wise, prayerful,
discerning, prudent, patient, kind, loyal
women who are faithful unto death and
who are the enforcers and guardians of
God’s purpose in the lives of men.
A woman can kill a man that she has
lived with all her life, simply because he
never returned her love and a woman
can kill for or die for a man who loves
her and stands by her through thick and
thin. If you are rich, pretend that you are
poor to a woman and you will know her
true nature. If you are poor, pretend that
you are rich to a woman and you will
know what she is really after.
A woman that abandons a man when he
is going through difficulties is not worth
taking back when those challenges have
been overcome. Beware of a woman’s
love, for at the slightest hurt, it can turn
to hate. Women gossip and talk, yet a
woman keeps deeper secrets than any
man.
When a woman says “no” she actually
means “maybe” and when she says
“maybe” she actually means “yes”. A
woman that betrays or seeks to destroy,
ridicule or shame her husband or lover
destroys and diminishes her own spirit
and wounds her own soul; not only is
she not worthy of being loved by any,
but she is not the material for a man of
destiny, she is not of the stuff that true
women are made.
A great king with a great army can
overrun nations and yet can be
mastered and overwhelmed by the mere
touch and whisperings of a loving
woman. The love of Helen of Troy
caused the launch of a thousand ships
and the love of any woman can cause a
man to slaughter.
Women are a gift from God to men, but
like all gifts they must be pampered,
loved and given all your attention
otherwise they begin to look elsewhere
for such nourishment and care. Out of
every specie of animal ever created by
God, it is always the female gender of
that animal that is the most vicious and
dangerous and yet it is also the female
of that specie that protects and raises
the offspring in loving care.
You cannot police a woman or really
know her movements for she can be the
greatest deceiver: if she really wants to
play, she will go ahead and play and no
matter the efforts that her man makes,
it is only by divine intervention that he
will ever know. A woman is moved by
touch whilst a man is moved by sight.
A woman will die for her children and
guard her home with all she has. A
woman craves for security and
commitment above all else and without
these two she cannot truly be happy. A
woman gives, a woman takes, a woman
laughs, a woman cries, yet through all
this only she alone knows what is really
in her heart.
A woman can heave and moan in the
throes of orgasmic passion, yet deep
down she feels nothing at all but pity
and contempt for the lover that she is
deceiving.
A woman can lie still and say she feels
nothing yet her heart trembles and races
and her senses come alive and quiver
deeply just at the sound and by the
touch of the man that she truly desires.
A woman can bed a man for many years
of her life yet when confronted with the
facts can say she never met him. A
woman can love a man throughout her
life without having ever spoken to him
before.
A woman may be worshipped by the
wealthiest of princes yet secretly her
heart belongs to the poorest pauper in
town. A woman may feign respect and
love for her closest friend yet secretly
she craves for and seeks to bed that
best friend’s husband.
A woman can possess the wisdom and
foresight of an Abigail yet she can also
have the cunning and guile of a Dalilah.
A woman can bear the cruelty and
wickedness of a Jezebel yet she can
also have the courage and selflessness
of an Esther.
A woman rejected is the most
dangerous creature on God’s green
earth: for as they say ‘’hell hath no fury
like a woman scorned’’. Yet a woman
loved and that is cherished and
pampered is the greatest gift that the
heavens can offer.
That is a woman for you: they can be a
snare or a blessing. They can bring joy
or pain. They can wound or they can
heal. They are a beautiful contradiction
of love and hate and we men simply
cannot live without them.
A woman can only appreciate a man
after she has been with another. A
woman will make you feel that you are
in charge yet with sweet words and with
guile and cunning she silently controls
everything and everyone around you.
Women are the shield, the defender and
the foundation of the home. Even as the
man is the head, the woman is the neck
without which it would fall. The greatest
mistake that any man could ever make
is to underestimate or treat with levity
the power of a woman.
For it is only a dullard or a fool that
could honestly believe that he can
confine a woman to having babies and
to simply cooking in the kitchen. A
woman is irrepressable,
unbeatable,unfathomable, irresistable
and unknowable and my advice to every
man is to cherish her, to love her and to
grant her, her hearts deepest desires.
That is the secret to a woman’s heart
and what more is there to say, other
than for us to admit that the woman is
the true hero of our lives and to simply
agree that we must appease and
worship them and do all we can to keep
those pretty smiles on their beautiful yet
dangerous faces.

on a daily basis.
The fact that we abuse it and expect it to look
healthy and glowing is not realistic; we must
try to take good care of our Skin and we can
start by learning the correct way of washing
our face.
Listed below are 7 steps to correctly remove
your makeup:
Step 1 : Wash your face with warm water and
a mild cleanser and pat dry with a clean towel

Toner is useful for those with oily skin
Step 3 : Apply any topical medications, such
as acne treatment
Step 4 : Apply eye cream or serum and let
dry. This will help prevent collagen damage
Step 5 : Apply moisturizer. Drying out your
skin will actually cause it to produce more oil.
Step 6 : Apply Sunscreen with SPF of at least

Step 7 : Apply makeup primer or foundation
and proceed with your makeup routine.
By following these steps you will prevent any
further damage to your skin and your Heart

In my opinion prevention is always better than
treatment! I’m sure many of you out there will
agree with me on this. Treatment can be very
expensive and time consuming which most of
us simply can’t afford to do.
Always remember; skin care is of vital
importance, since skin is the largest and most
visible organ of your body!

Aiding Boko Haram: Army Court-martials 10 Generals, 5 Others

By Our Correspondents
— June 3, 2014
No fewer than 15 senior military officers
including 10 generals have been tried
before a court-martial and found guilty
of giving information and ammunition to
Boko Haram terrorists.
In the recent past, the Army and the
Defence headquarters have raised the
alarm that some of their officers and
men are leaking official information to
the terrorists and that some of them
have been arrested and arraigned before
some court-martials in some army
divisions in the north.
Military sources told LEADERSHIP that
some of them who were tried at their
division levels still have hope until the
final review of the judgement at the
headquarters in Abuja.
“There are a lot of arrests that have
been made over some officers who were
sabotaging the ongoing counter-
insurgency operations. The suspects
include about 10 generals and other
ranks, not to talk of soldiers who have
been found culpable of sabotaging our
operations. They are facing trial before
court-martials set up by their divisions;
some have been found guilty, and some
are still facing trial. Once the court
martial rule, the recommendations are
forwarded to the Army Headquarters or
Defence Headquarters as the case may
be,” a source disclosed.
Another top security source told our
correspondent that four senior soldiers
were found guilty of being disloyal and
for working for the members of the sect.
“Four generals have been court-
martialed for divulging high-class
security information to the members of
the sect. They were found guilty of
leaking military strategies to the Boko
Haram people. This was why many
soldiers have been ambushed and killed
by the Boko Haram,” the source added.
Our source who could not disclose the
names of these generals simply said
some senior military officers and
soldiers from a particular section of the
country are deeply involved in the
treasonable acts.
“They have been found guilty of also
collaborating with some top politicians
in the country to make the country
ungovernable for selfish reasons. A lot
of re-organisation is going on in the
military. Many generals will go. Some
will be court-martialed and some will be
forcefully retired,” he added. “The
movement of our troops in the north-
east have been leaked to the Boko
Haram by many of our colleagues, but
the Defence headquarters has realized
that and is seriously considering
redeployment of some senior officers out
of the north-east.”
The army had, on Sept. 19, 2013, said
its 3 Division had set up a general
martial court to try erring officers and
soldiers.
During a press briefing, the then
director, army public relations, Brigadier
General Ibrahim Attahiru, said the new
court would instil discipline and
professionalism among its troops based
on Army Headquarters’ directives.
The court under general commanding
officer Ebiobowei Awala was
inaugurated on April 22 at Rhino
Officers Mess, Maxwell Khobe
Cantonment, Jos, and has tried nine
soldiers for various offences ranging
from murder to manslaughter.
But it was not clear at the time of
fielding this report whether the generals
were court -martialed by the same
court.
Although efforts to confirm from the
Defence Headquarters’ spokesman,
Major General Chris Olukolade, did not
yield any result, a top serving general in
the DHQ said a lot of trials were indeed
going on: “A lot is happening. Those
suspected are being tried, and this is
why it is difficult to confirm or deny the
story. But whenever the final verdicts
are taken on these trials, the press
would be briefed by the appropriate
officers.”
#BringBackOurGirls protesters dare CP
Mbu over ban on protest
FCT commissioner of police Mr Joseph
Mbu has placed a ban on all protests
calling for freedom for the abducted
Chibok schoolgirls in the territory.
Mbu made the announcement yesterday
during a news conference where he said
that the trend of the protests in the FCT
constituted a serious security threat.
According to Mbu, information at the
disposal of the command indicated that
“dangerous elements’’ were planning to
hijack the protests which, he said,
informed the ban.
“As the FCT police boss, I cannot fold
my hands and watch this lawlessness
(protests). Information reaching us is
that, too soon, dangerous elements will
join groups under the guise of protest
and detonate explosives aimed at
embarrassing the government.
“People have been protesting for over a
month now. It is the issue of terrorism;
it is not solved in one day. Then, when
you continue to do it persistently, it
becomes a nuisance to the government.
Accordingly, protests on the Chibok
schoolgirls are hereby banned with
immediate,” he said.
Mbu said that after a group under the
aegis of “Bring Back Our Girls” protested
on April 28, another group, “Release Our
Girls”, emerged.
The police boss said that a situation
where the “Fountain of Unity”, venue of
gathering for the protests, was being
turned into a place for “cooking and
selling” was embarrassing.
Mbu, who lamented that many
diplomats live in that area of the FCT,
called on the people of the territory to
encourage the security agencies in the
war against terrorism and criminality by
appreciating the sacrifices the security
agencies had made and would continue
to make.
Asked whether the ban would not
violate freedom of expression and
assembly, the commissioner said that
one person’s freedom should not affect
another person’s freedom.
The commissioner also announced the
revocation of permit earlier issued for
tinted glass vehicles in the territory.
“There is a period when permit was
granted but the recent security
challenges have made the police
authority to revisit the issue and have
resolved to revoke same. The permit
issued so far remain revoked. You are
hearing this from my mouth, the FCT
police boss. The only authority to grant
tinted glass permit is the inspector-
general of police himself, under his hand
and signature,” he said.
Meanwhile, the FCT CP has also
announced the sack of all divisional
police officers in the FCT, directing them
to hand over to the next senior police
officer in their respective divisions. The
command spokesman, DSP Altine
Daniel, told newsmen that the decision
was taken after the commissioner met
with the DPOs yesterday.
Mbu’s no-rally directive: we are not
deterred, we will continue, group says
The Bring Back Our Girls campaign
group has stated that it is not deterred
by the directive of the FCT
commissioner of police, Mbu Joseph
Mbu, banning rallies in the city.
Media coordinator of the group Rotimi
Olawale, in an interview, stated that the
group cannot be denied having rallies
because it has the constitutional right
to meet at any place it wants to, adding
that it will still continue until the Chibok
girls abducted over a month ago are
brought back alive .
“We understand that the government is
concerned about its image and that is
the reason we are asking it to bring the
children back. That is what we want,” he
said.
Lawyers fault Mbu, say he lacks powers
to ban protest
But some lawyers have faulted the
directive by Mbu, saying that the
Nigeria Police lacks the constitutional
power to ban protest by Nigerians
The lawyers including Malam Abaubakar
Malami (SAN), Prof Awa Kalu (SAN), Mr
Ahmed Raji (SAN), Mr Fred Agbaje, Mr
Festus Keyamo and Mr Bamidele Aturu
described the development as an
embarrassment to the country and an
affront to the rule of law.
The lawyers spoke during separate
interviews with LEADERSHIP yesterday.
Malami said, “It is a clear infringement
on the rights of the protesters to
express themselves. The rights to
organise a peaceful protest is
guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution.”
Kalu said, “Protest is part of the
provisions of the 1999 Constitution. The
ban is not healthy for our democracy at
all. They have the right to stage a
protest if they are aggrieved. The ban is
an infringement on the rights of the
protesters.”
Raji said, “The security of the country is
very important at this moment.
Individuals have the rights to protest
but when such protest threatens the
security of the country, the authorities
have the right to take some steps to
ensure that there is no breakdown of law
and order.”
Agbaje : “This kind of proclamation is
unconstitutional. It is an affront on the
constitutional right of Nigerians to
expression. Any Public Act provision
purportedly being acted upon by the
police in making this order is an affront
to both the rights of every Nigerian to
movement and expression. That kind of
order can only be tolerated under a
military government. No law can justify
the order and it must be withdrawn
immediately.
“This order is an embarrassment to the
federal government and it can further
lower the government in the eyes of the
international community that is
collaborating with them to rescue the
adopted girls. It is now clear to all that
the federal government is neck-deep in
the Boko Haram crisis.”
Aturu said, “The news is unbelievable.
It’s unbelievable because it cannot work
and it is very embarrassing to Nigerians
because, at a time like this when the
government should be at the forefront of
the efforts to protect the rights of the
citizens, they are demonstrating that
they don’t even understand the rights.
“The order should also be an
embarrassment to the federal
government and the police because it is
a mockery of our democracy. No one
can determine for Nigerians when to
protest, where to protest, as long as it is
a peaceful one. I hope this evil directive
will be reversed and the police
commissioner called to order
immediately.”
Keyamo said: “It is shocking that the
federal government, hiding under the
facade of the police, has finally openly
displayed its disdain for the public
outcry over the kidnap of those innocent
souls. The federal government would
really have wished that we all went
about our normal businesses and live in
denial like it did for many weeks.
“The government has shown that it is
more concerned about its image and
self-preservation than the safety of
those girls. This is the height of
irresponsibility and insensitivity to the
plight of the Chibok girls and their
family members. At a time when
government has not shown a capacity
to protect lives and properties, it is even
denying the citizens the basic right to
cry out about government’s inaction. It
is like beating a child mercilessly and
choking the child at the same time to
prevent the child from crying out. It is
inhuman, it is degrading and it is
humiliating.”
OIC labels Boko Haram outlaws, anti-
Islam
The Organisation of Islamic Countries
(OIC) declared yesterday that members
of the Boko Haram sect are a gang of
criminal outlaws who have been
misrepresenting the Islamic religion with
gory activities that are anti-Islam in
Nigeria.
Secretary-general of the OIC Eyad
Ameen Madani made the organisation’s
position known when he led a 57-
member delegation to pay President
Goodluck Jonathan a condolence visit
over the wanton killings by the
insurgents.
He said the organisation was also in
Nigeria to suggest to the president
certain things it could do to support the
country and express its willingness to be
actively involved in the war against the
terrorist group.
Madani said one concrete support
Nigeria should expect from OIC is that
since the Boko Haram crisis was multi-
dimensional, OIC could be involved in
many ways, including “first to declare its
position morally from the religious point
of view”.
Labelling Boko Haram as a gang of
criminal outlaws who are
misrepresenting Islam with anti-Islamic
activities, he said: “We are also here to
express our solidarity with Nigeria in
facing up to this terrorist organisation
and to condemn all terrorist acts they
have been committing, and to show our
condolences to the Nigerian people, to
the families of those who were affected.
“The OIC has issued statements that we
are very clear that these people are
outlaws; what they do is criminal act. It
has absolutely nothing to do with Islam,
Islamic teachings, the religion of Islam,
the history, the culture, the civilisation
of Islam, and we should identify them
for what they are: a terrorist group.”
Noting that the delegation of OIC led by
him discussed the organisation’s vision
and its priorities in the years to come,
the OIC secretary general clarified that
the conference is not a religious
organisation but a political one with 57
member-states that are represented in
the conference as a government.
Madani hinted further that OIC informed
Jonathan of the need for Nigerian
authorities to organise or allow inter-
faith forums to tap into Africa’s rich
history of religious tolerance in order to
clear the air on unverifiable claims that
suggest religious bigotry.
“Nigeria is a member of OIC at the
government level; so is Indonesia, so is
Senegal, Saudi Arabia, amongst others,”
he said. “We will convene an inter-faith
dialogue, because we feel that there is a
lot to be said about the veracity of these
claims, and to show the many aspects
of similarities and living together
between not only Christians and
Muslims but between all faiths and
convictions.”
Explaining that Africa was a model of
such tolerance, and its history a history
of tolerance, of living together, he said
the OIC through its different organs are
available to the request of the federal
government and would do all it can to
help in alleviating the social and
economic conditions in any areas
affected by the activities of insurgents.
On his part, foreign affairs minister
Aminu Wali, who followed the delegation
to visit the president, said the support
of OIC which is indicative of the
organisation’s willingness to come to
the aid of member-states was a
welcome development for Nigeria.
13 killed as gunmen, villagers battle in
Gwoza
At least 13 people comprising nine
Christian worshippers and four
suspected Boko Haram gunmen were
reportedly killed in a village in Gwoza
local government area of Borno State as
the gunmen and local residents engaged
in a life-or-death battle, eyewitnesses
and security officials said.
The Christian worshippers were killed
during a Sunday service in Antagara
village, near Gwoza town.
The attack came barely 24 hours after
the burial of the Emir of Gwoza, Idrisa
Timta, who was assassinated by the
Boko Haram gunmen on Friday.
During the burial, three suspected Boko
Haram members were nabbed by the
local youth vigilante when the gunmen
armed with RPG and AK 47 were
planning attack on the town at the time
the state governor Kashim Shettima and
other top dignitaries were busy
attending the burial of the assassinated
monarch.
The Sunday attack on worshippers
appeared to be a reprisal attack by
Boko Haram gunmen angered by the
arrest of their members on Saturday.
Witnesses said some armed men
stormed a church at Attangara village
in Gwoza LGA and opened fire on
worshippers while the Sunday service
was going on at about 9:30am.
In anger over the attack on the hapless
worshippers, the members of community
mobilized and went after the gunmen.
“The attack occurred at EYN Church
(Church of Brethren, Nigeria) while the
service was going on,” said a fleeing
resident called Miss Martha. “Our
church has some men as security group.
They usually keep vigilance on the
church especially when service is going
on. As we were holding service, we
started hearing gunshots and everybody
fled, some through the windows and ran
into a bush. Some whose houses are
near the church also ran to their
houses. Men in the community
immediately mobilised and pursued the
Boko Haram men. They were more than
10; they came with motorcycles and a
car. Our vigilante killed four of the Boko
Haram and arrested three. I later
discovered nine of our men in the
church security group were shot dead. I
left Attangara yesterday afternoon, slept
at Gwoza to get to Maiduguri today.”
A top security person who pleaded
anonymity confirmed the incident, even
as the state police command has not
issued any statement in respect of the

more girls, women in Borno
Borno indigenes in the FCT are worried
over the continuous abduction of girls
and women by Boko Haram terrorists in
the state even after the abduction of the
Chibok girls.
Speaking in an interview during the sit-
out of the Bring Back Our Girls group at
Amusement Park, Maitama, one of the
indigenes, Dr Fatima Zama Gana, stated
that they had heard about another
abduction of innocent women in Banki,
Borno State, and its environs and the
trend has become a cause of worry for
them.
“Two days ago, we got a frantic call
from one of the abducted women and
she was talking in the Hilux van that
gunmen stormed the place and picked
up women from different settlements in
Banki on the farm and in the market. As
at that time, she was with her phone
because they were many and were not
searched. She was talking to her relation
in Abuja that they were at the Gamboru-
Ngala road. The abductors started
raining insult on her and that was the
last they heard from her. They pick
women randomly. From her group, she
said that they were about 20,” she said.
Another, Yusuf Sheriff Banki, decried the
suffering of his people who are not only
scared of their lives but are also facing
scarcity of food and drugs for
themselves.
“They can’t go to farm any longer
because they are scared of being raped,
kidnapped or killed. Food is rather
expensive there now. They are suffering,
not having drugs and food. No channels
of supplying food there. Dangote is no
longer supplying food there. Other
vendors have stopped theirs,” he said.
No security in place in Chibok – foreign
journalist
A journalist from Marie Claire, France,
Manon Querovil, who travelled to Chibok
recently, has stated that there was no
form of security in Chibok, the place
where over 200 girls were abducted on
April 14.
Querovil, who spoke to the Bring Back
Our Girls campaign group, stated that
her journey to Chibok was a tedious one
with checkpoints on the road and added
that there was no form of security when
they got to the Chibok village.
“The most striking thing is that there is
no security in Chibok and since they are
living close to the forest the insurgents
can come freely and strike,” she said.
Nigeria has withdrawn peacekeeping
troops from Mali – Mark
The president of the Senate, David Mark,
on Monday said the activities of Boko
Haram insurgents had compelled
government to withdraw its
peacekeeping troops from Mali.
He made the remark at a two-day
retreat on Nigeria’s foreign policy jointly
organised by the Senate Committee on
Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian
Institute of International Affairs in
Lagos.
The Senate president said Boko Haram
insurgency had become a major
challenge to Nigeria’s efforts at forging
relationships with her French-speaking
neighbours.
“The activities of Boko Haram
insurgents are beginning to affect
Nigeria’s foreign policy,’’ said Mark,
represented by his chief of staff, Sen.
Anthony Manzo.
He held that any government’s foreign
policy was an extension of its domestic
policy.
How Borno co-funds fight against Boko
Haram – SSG
The Borno State government has
disclosed that though it received only
N200m contribution from the federal
government since 2011, it has invested
over N10bn in procurement of armoured
personnel carriers, patrol vehicles,
hundreds of trailers of petroleum
products, provision of material logistics
and intervention in the area of
accommodation to support security
agencies in the fight against Boko
Haram insurgency, secretary to the
Borno State government Ambassador
Baba Ahmed Jidda said in an interactive
session with journalists before he left
Lagos at the weekend.
Jidda said the state had earlier decided
not to make public its expenditures on
the fight against Boko Haram because
Governor Kashim Shettima always
restrained officials in order not to be
viewed as embarrassing the federal
government since funding security falls
under the exclusive legislative list which
makes it a constitutional obligation of
the FG.
Jidda said the governor reversed his
position given a series of allegations
levelled against the state by mischief-
makers, part of which is a claim that the
state was not supporting the military.
He said, “First of all, let me say we were
pushed into making public these things I
am about to say. For three years, we
dealt with these challenges without any
noise, since the government was doing
it for Borno people. Some people are
being made to assume that a certain
security vote is provided to state
governments; this is not true. No state
gets a dime from FAAC as security vote.
Every state makes its own budget it
intends to spend from its own normal
allocations for security, not that
external funds from the federal
government accrues to any state.
“For us in Borno, we have spent over
N10billion in the last three years to
support security agencies in the
counter-insurgency. This doesn’t include
our losses. We have lost thousands of
citizens and, in terms of material loss,
we might be talking in tens of billions.
And, in all of these, Borno has received
only N200m from the federal
government as support; we have been
co-funding the security that is the
exclusive preserve of the federal
government.”
Police begin counter-terrorism mass
campaign
The Nigerian police have commenced an
extensive counter-terrorism mass
campaign as part of the strategies lined
up in the ongoing war against terrorism.
Force public relations officer CSP Frank
Mba made this known during a media
briefing during which he said the
campaign would witness massive
distribution of information, education
and communication (IEC) materials
across all strata of the Nigerian society.
According to Mba, the inspector-general
of police, Mohammed Abubakar, called
on Nigerians to partner with the force in
the counter-terrorism enlightenment
campaign (CEC), saying that the
campaign is expected to be sustained
until every citizen of Nigeria is well
informed of their responsibilities in this
age of terrorism.

Vigilante Group Deployed To Guard Schools As Students Resume For Exams

Kareem Haruna
— June 2, 2014
Local hunters under the aegis of the
Vigilante Group of Nigeria have been
deployed to Chibok town to provide
security for junior secondary school
(JSS) students, who are resuming to
write both their second and third term
examinations, official sources informed
LEADERSHIP.
The Borno State government had in
March announced the closure of all
public schools, following increasing
attacks on schools by the Boko Haram
sect.
The hunters had as at yesterday moved
to Chibok ahead the students, who
resume today.
An official of the local vigilante group
said they had been contacted to give
the school and the students a security
cover as they commence their exams, as
parents had expressed fear that their
wards’ lives might be endangered,
should they go back to school.
The junior secondary school is run by
the Universal Basic Education Scheme in
Borno State.
Apart from Government Secondary
School, Chibok from where over 200
girls were abducted by Boko Haram, the
UBE school, which has a primary as well
as a junior secondary section, is the
only public school in Chibok town.
Last week, the Borno State government
had dispersed over 300 local hunters
and members of the Vigilante Group of
Nigeria from where they had assembled
at a pilgrims’ camp in Maiduguri, ready
to go in search for and rescue the
abducted schoolgirls from the Boko
Haram. The state government had said
that sending local hunters into the
Sambisa forest would not only be
suicidal for them, but could also
interfere with the ongoing international
efforts to rescue the girls.
Besides that, Governor Shettima had
said he had no executive powers to
sanction such local effort, as only the
presidency was vested with that
authority. Shettima, who addressed the
hunters through his deputy governor,
Zanna Mustapha, had said he would
rather deploy them to guard the primary
and secondary schools, when they
resumed to write their promotional
exams.
Officials of the vigilante group said that
over 300 of their members had been
deployed to Chibok alone, to secure the
town as the students write their exams

160+ Graduate & Experienced Jobs at University of Lagos (UNILAG)

Founded in 1962, the University of Lagos has,
for over 5 decades, provided qualitative and
research-oriented education to Nigerians and
all those who have entered its domain in
search of knowledge. At its inception, the
University of Lagos was empowered to
produce a professional workforce that would
steer the political, social and economic
development of a newly independent country.
Over the last fifty years the University has
pursued this mission with vigour, excellence
and panache. The University has built a
legacy of academic excellence and is now
acclaimed publicly as “the University of First
Choice and the Nation’s Pride.”
The main campus is located at Akoka, Yaba
area of Lagos, while the campus of its College
of Medicine with its adjunct Lagos University
Teaching Hospital (LUTH) is located idi-
Araba, Surulere, on the Lagos mainland.
Over the past few years, the University has
strived to increase its financial self -
sufficiency, recognising that it cannot depend
on government funding alone to achieve and
sustain the distinction to which it aspires. The
University is therefore taking steps to seek
greater financial autonomy by implementing
measures and programmes and developing the
capabilities to solicit, promote and earn the
generosity of its alumni body as well as the
broad community of interests the University
serves.
