Parents beat son to death for complaining of hunger

THE police in Lagos State have
confirmed two separate cases in which
two boys were allegedly beaten to
death by their parents.
Onyedikachi Mbanozo, 12, was
allegedly beaten to death by his father
and mother for complaining of hunger.
It was learnt that Mr Paul Obiefule and
his wife, allegedly beat the youngster
to death at their home at 22, Omitola
Street, Agege, Lagos at about 2.30
p.m. on the eve of Children’s Day
celebration.
Lagos State police command’s
spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, confirmed
the development, adding that
investigation was ongoing and the
parent, Obiefule and his wife were
already in police custody, undergoing
interrogation.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that one of
the couple’s neighbours, Mr Mukaila
Maliki, alleged that the boy had, in the
past, been beaten to a state of coma
and had to be hospitalised for a
month.
According to an eyewitness, on May
26, when Onyedikachi was beaten to
death, Obiefule was alleged to have
taken him to hospital for treatment
after the boy fainted, due to excessive
beatings from the father. He later
claimed that the boy was being treated
at an undisclosed hospital.
However, the next morning suspicious
neighbours, who were not satisfied
about the answers given them on the
whereabouts of the little boy,
confronted Obiefule’s wife and alerted
the police.
When the police got to the home of the
Obiefules, the corpse of Onyedikachi
was allegedly discovered under the
bed.
The policemen arrested the couple and
took them and the corpse to the
station.
In another incident, Mr Bright, beat his
son to death with an iron belt for
allegedly stealing N1, 000.
The incident happened at 6,
Olarenwaju Street, Oregun, Ikeja,
Lagos, on Monday.
