• Follow a healthy hair diet
Everyday eat an adequate amount of protein,
essential for healthy hair growth. Keratin, a
protein made up of amino acids, is a large
component of hair. Your body must produce
more amino acids to grow new hair, which it
can only do from consuming protein. Eggs,
nuts, beans, and soy products are some
healthy protein sources. Protein gives your
body the building blocks for new hair
growth.
• Eat enough iron and zinc
Iron and zinc deficiencies can lead to poor
hair health or even hair loss. You may need
supplements that should only be taken under
the direction of a health professional if you
have a deficiency. Healthy levels of iron and
zinc may be also achieved by consuming
fortified grain products such as cereal, bread,
and pasta.
• Don’t cut fat out of your diet
Your body cannot maintain healthy hair
without fat in your diet. Healthy fats are
indispensable to hair growth. Focus on
unsaturated fat and fatty acids such as
omega-3′s, limit your fat to a healthy level.
• Maintain good general health and avoid
stress
Stress can cause hair loss. Intense physical
or emotional stress can cause hair growth to
slow or shut down completely. Exercise
regularly, eat well, and get enough sleep to
reduce general physical stress levels. The
better your nutrition and general health, the
more likely your body will be able to
construct healthy hair quickly.
• Make sure your slow hair growth or hair
loss is not caused by a medical
problemConsult a physician before beginning
any hair growth regimens if you have a
medical condition or prolonged illness,
prescription medicines, substance abuse
disorder, eating disorder, or other serious
medical condition that may be causing slow
hair growth or hair loss. Resolving an
underlying medical condition can help hair
growth return to normal or speed up in some
cases.
• Meet your recommended daily intake of
vitamin C
Dry, dull, and weak hair that is prone to
breakage can be caused by vitamin C
deficiency. Your body will have a hard time
absorbing iron without it, so make sure you
get your daily dose, particularly in
combination with iron-rich foods. Citrus
fruits, pineapples, strawberries, guava,
broccoli, kale, and peppers are some good
sources of vitamin C.
• Have realistic expectations about dietary
changes
Grown hairs will not be affected by what you
eat but it will affect new growth. Changing
your diet may begin affecting the growth of
hair in a much shorter time period, however
dietary effects on hair may take 6 months to
be visible.
• Scalp massage
Massage your scalp at least three times a
week, using the tips of your fingers firmly
massage your entire scalp.
