Policeman to die by hanging for killing a man in Osun

A police sergeant, Adamu Baruwa, has been
sentenced to death by hanging by a High
Court in Ilesa, Osun state for killing a man.
Sergeant Baruwa, was arraigned over his
involvement in the death of Kehinde Awoyedo
who was shot dead in Ilesa.
The convicted sergeant was said to have shot
and killed Awoyedo with an AK-47 rifle at
Ilesa on 20th August 2008, he however
pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of
murder levelled against him by the state
prosecution when he was arraigned on May
11, 2012
Reports say:
The prosecution team from the state
Ministry of Justice led by Barr. Moses
Faremi, according to the judge, had
proved beyond doubt that the trigger-
happy policeman shot and killed
Awoyedo.
The prosecution had during the hearing
called five witnesses including the
relatives of the deceased and the duo of
Amos Awoyelu and Akintola Awoyelu
among others.
A consultant pathologist at Obafemi
Awolowo University Teaching Hospital,
Ile-Ife, Dr. Omoniyi Esan, had presented
to the court the post mortem report of
the deceased and equally gave evidence
on the cause of Awoyedo’s gruesome
death.
The presiding judge, Justice
AbdulRasazak AbdulKareem sentenced
Sergeant Adamu Baruwa to death owing
to the convincing evidences made
available by the prosecution.
Delivering his judgement, Justice
AbdulKareem sentenced the convict to
death by hanging to serve as deterrent
to other trigger-happy rank and file of
the workforce like Awoyedo.
